Madeira Cake – Plain

 

This mixture can also be used to make cupcakes.

 

 

Ingredients

6 oz butter or marg

6 oz castor sugar

8 oz plain flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

pinch of salt

3 eggs

Cooking Time: approx 1 hour 15 minutes

Temperature: 180C – middle of oven

Utensils: 7 inch round tin

  • Beat sugar and butter/marg together until light and creamy.
  • Sieve together flour, baking powder and salt.
  • Beat the eggs one at a time and add to butter mixture with a tablespoon of flour mix.
  • With the final egg, add a dessert spoon of water.
  • Fold in the remaining flour and put into lined 7 inch tin.
  • Bake for 75 minutes at approximately 180C.

This mixture can also be used to make cupcakes.
